New Shiny Adornments logo and banner

Nov
3 Comments »   Posted by Kristy |  Category:My Jewelry

I know I know, all conventional marketing wisdom says that I need to design a ShinyAdornments logo, and stick with it. But, alas I am fickle, and I like to change my look and my shop banner with the seasons.

In my search for someone to help me, I discovered Helen’s 1-Stop Design Shop on etsy and contacted her to design a new logo and banner.

While she was at it, she also created a new business card and promo sticker for me.  As my coworkers will attest, I’m not always the easiest to work with… but Helen was able to take my somewhat vague ideas and create a very cool new logo for Shiny Adornments. Helen made the process very simple and infinitely painless. Final result? I couldn’t be more pleased. :-)

If it is about time you spruced up your look, check out Helen. And tell her Shiny sent you.  :-)

Whew, promoting is exhausting!

Nov
No Comments   Posted by Kristy |  Category:My Jewelry

I’ve been giving considerable thought to promotion. What where when why and how. I think it is important to understand one’s customer base,  but as I’m so new, I think I have a general idea of what that should be, but no real facts to back it up.

I’ve started compiling a list of internet related mediums I’d like to experiment. None are targeted advertising per se, but another avenue to spread the shiny word.  Here is my short list of non-advertising mediums online with activity to date:

web                                 Action: My site is up and running
etsy                                 Action: I’ve openened a store front shinyadornments.etsy.com
flickr                               Action: I’ve created a flickr site  shiny on flickr
myspace                        Action: I’ve created a site, but its pretty ugly at this point
talentdatabase              Action: I’ve created a tdb site  thedb.com/shinyadornments
stumbleupon                 Action: Need to investigate and perhaps create a site?

I think I’ve got a pretty good handle about where the traffic to my blog and my web is coming from, but I think I need to experiment a bit longer to decide if I should spend additional $$ at any of those locations.

Love to hear your feedback about this one
stay tuned

Worstershire sauce….magical liquid

Nov
No Comments   Posted by Kristy |  Category:Technical Tips

I’m a simple girl.  Well mostly. My SO would probably disagree with that statement in a few areas, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  I like it when the solution to a problem is a simple fix.

Using worstershire to clean copper is one of those solutions. Every time I dunk a piece of heavily tarnished copper jewelry in the sauce I am amazed at how darn SHINY it looks in seconds.  I’m sure there is a scientific reason for the chemically induced cleaning it produces…but, really, I don’t need to know the how.

I’d like to just continue enjoying it.

Rings rings and more rings

Nov
No Comments   Posted by Kristy |  Category:My Jewelry

I branched out and created several rings this weekend. Turns out they are FUN to make and quite blingy. Unfortunately for me, they require quite smaller beads than I have in my current stash, so I need to make another trip to the bead store. :-)

Kinda outside of my comfort zone, but I like them.

Never under estimate the power of sleep

Nov

Someone at my house got a new bed this weekend. My wonderful SO spent his afternoon on Friday wrangling with delivery men to set up a whole new bed as a surprise for me. Its big and comfy with a HUGE pillow top. Our old mattress was beyond bad; we’d both end up in the middle as it had become concave over time.

And did I sleep well Friday night? You betcha. Better than I had in a really long time.

Ok, I admit it. My needs are pretty simple. This girlie doesn’t need anything else for the holiday season. I’m a happy happy camper.
