Shiny Spotlight Thursday
There are some really talented artists, designers and creators that sell their handmade items on Artfire and etsy. Each Thursday I highlight some of the items that catch my eye.
Clicking on each image will link you to the seller of each item, if you decide you simply must purchase it.
If you haven’t opened an account on etsy to purchase handmade items, you really should. Also, if you haven’t checked out Artfire in a while, you can find some really unique gifts on the site. Artfire doesn’t require you to open an account to purchase handmade goods. Easy peasy.
My birthday is just around the corner. So, to make your shopping task as simple as possible, this week’s Shiny Spotlight Thursday is devoted to stuff you can purchase for my birthday. See, aren’t you glad you keep me around? I’m sooooooo helpful.
Enjoy!
Handbound leather journal from LaPaperie
Sage and Citrus Soap from Pegassus soaps (I LOVE this seller)
Trifle Ring from Rosy Revolver
XXX Rated DARK Chocolate Bliss Brownies from Cupcakes in Jars
Spalted sycamore hollow turned vessel from Sewelson Woodcrafts

I’m an autumn.. reds, oranges, browns, greens, that’s my palette. I love this time of year, right before the temperature starts to really drop and after the heat of summer has passed.
The trees right out my door are busy changing colors and make for a wonderful drive to work everyday.
I have a few items in my shop that compliment the fall color palette pretty well. I think these wonderful deep red garnet embellished hoops, and my whiskey quartz necklace team well with the changing leaves on my local trees. Mmmmm, that whisky quartz practically glows from the inside.
They compliment well with this shot of the trees on my street, huh?
What do you have in your shops that is autumn palette colored?

When I was a teenager we lived in Germany. While I was MUCH more interested in liquids produced with the local hops, my mother collected Swarovski stuff. Lots and lots of Swarovski stuff. Crystal animals, angels, fish, butterflies and ornaments joined our european household.
I was never very interested in these little dust catching chatchkas. I didn’t realize that Swarovski even made beads until recently. And when I did realize that one could purchase bead sized crystals, I just wasn’t interested. As Craig Ferguson would say in the appropriate accent “I KNOW” while looking at you knowingly. Some of my beading friends gave me a friendly tongue lashing, so I’ve acquired a few Swarovski Beads of my own. And you know what? They are drool worthy lovely. Really. I’m kind of shocked and more than a little embarrassed that I like them. You know the old saying about “the one doth protest too much” as I was carrying on about how I wasn’t the biggest fan? Well, I’ve been suitably chastised and intend to mend my errant ways.
Aren’t these Crystal Moon Swarovski Pendants gorgeous? I’m thinking they’d be a perfect accent for Team Edward. LOL
I’ve been fondling the beads for about a week now on my bench, so you’ll see another post from me soon with the items I’ve created from them. I don’t know which ones I like best yet, but oh, man, the color shifts on the Cyclamen Opal cubes are FABULOUS.

Remember when I posted lists, according to Google Analytics, of search terms used to find my shop on etsy, and more search terms here? The current month’s list is equally amusing. I don’t know how effective GA is for etsy, but, at a minimum it is entertaining. LOL
1. Cool Jewelry – nice to know someone thinks I’m cool. I wonder when the last time was that I was actually cool? 1992?
2. Crocheted Smoke Ring – Smoke made tangible. Crochet even.
3. Beverage Cover – I’m trying to think of what items in my shop could be used as a beverage cover. hmmmmm
4. Edor – turns out there’s another shop owner with this name. I was thinking it was some sort of Tolkein reference.
5. How to sew a mad hatter top hat – Alice and me… we have a LOT in common
6. Make a baby shower invitation monkey – Is this a trained pet that hands out stationery?
7. Milkshake spoons – There are special spoons for milkshakes? Really? Sheesh. I know, I know, I was raised in a barn apparently.
8. No pierce nipple rings – mmm, no comment
9. Snape decal – Harry Potter has left the building. Or at least my shop.
10. Terrarium plants experiment report – wondering what, exactly, one was conducting this ‘experiment’ for?
11. Two cheeky monkeys - aha!! Another Craig Ferguson fan.
12. Weiner dog necklace – is this ‘of’ the dog or ‘for’ the dog?
You just can’t make this stuff up….

I’m not feeling particularly creative today. My son, the master of mayhem, managed to park a lego in his nose on Saturday morning. A quick trip to the minor emergency clinic determined that it was firmly enough wedged within those anterior spaces that an additional trip to an ear/nose/throat specialist would be required. <sigh>
Of course, the ear/nose/throat specialist isn’t open on Saturday mornings. So, we picked up some antibiotics to ward off any tiny germy visitors and spent the weekend talking about legos and phlegm and other things that little boys think are HILARIOUS.
What he won’t find as hilarious is when the Dr. has to knock him out to retrieve the aforementioned lego. I’m not looking forward to that part of the adventure.
I know, I know, it could be worse. I hope everything goes smoothly in the morning and my wonderful, trouble making kiddo is back to his old tricks. Hopefully they won’t involve legos and body orifices.
I did manage to construct two new necklaces just in time for the holidays. Although, you should know that, my son lectured me, in a VERY stern voice, that “those red beads do NOT go in your nose Mommy”. Righto.
So, heed his warning and do not put any of the beads in either of these necklaces in your collective noses. Or we may just see you in the Dr’s office today.
