Updated March 2, 2011
I thought it would be interesting to create a list of sites that one could sell their handmade goods. I use Compete.com’s metrics to track traffic numbers over time for these online venues.
You’ll note columns for a site’s latest rank, as well as its previous rank and a column for actual site traffic.
An M means millions and a k is thousands. (4M is 4,000,000 and 4k is 4,000.) If a number is listed without either an M or a k, you can assume this is the actual number of visitors per month.
I’ve sorted the sites in this list from most to least trafficked. You can click on each site name to visit that site directly.
The LOWER the rank number the HIGHER the number of visitors a site receives. LOWER numbers are BETTER.
Does more traffic mean more sales? Maybe, but it’s not a given that larger traffic numbers equate to larger sales revenues for a site’s member sellers. Do your homework: visit site forums, Google for feedback and user opinions, ask questions.
Note: Some of the sites listed allow vendors to sell commercial AND handmade products. Also, sites that have moved more than 3 slots since the last review are highlighted in red text.
Looking for an etsy competitor? Seeking another venue to sell you handmade items? Asking what other sites are out there to list your handmade artisan work? This list may help.
What sites did I miss? What do you think of the sites you use? Please share your experiences.

Great list once again! Thanks for doing the research — and more importantly — for sharing the results.
wow! artfire already passed dawanda! :O go artfire!!
Great comparison chart! Each 3rd party stats tracker is a little different in how it reads traffic. ArtFire reached about 1.163 Million unique visitors in April & we expect that the new fully custom Studios launching in April will go over very well!
The new ArtFire Studios allow members to customize color, layout, banner size, and even add HTML and widgets such as Twitter and Flick feeds. Plus you can add an Etsy Mini & Project Wonderful Ad box right in your new Studios!
Freedom of your own Website + all the best features of a handmade venue = the new ArtFire Studios! We can’t wait to share these with you!

I’m currently at Winkelf only. I love the array of features they have there, and the owner of the site is very attentive. But I did do a bit of demographics research a while back, and was disappointed to find out the traffic there isn’t all that hot. With that said, I used to have a shop at Etsy, but found my shop there was invisible. I know, I’m hard to please. LOL
I opened an Art Fire store in late February. So far sales have been more than I expected, largely due to having a built-in audience through the various chat groups I belong to and on which I announced my store opening on.
So far I have not been able to document purchases outside of that community. I’d love to know how to reach the general buying public, but so far that eludes me.
I’d like to thank you very much for the time you spent evaluating the sites and the fact that you are so generously sharing that information.
It’s not something I would even begin to know how to do!
On a separate note – how do you feel the ads on your blog are working out?
Cheers!
Laura
How neat~I never knew most of these existed!

That’s a great list. A lot of site I’ve never heard of. Thanks so much!!
Great information and thanks for doing all the hard work to get it out to us. I have shops on Etsy and 1000 Markets but have not taken the Artfire plunge yet. Might consider their free account until I see it would be worth it for me to be there. I do really like the Rapid Cart feature they have, brilliant idea.
This is a great list with some interesting information! Thanks for sharing!
Do you know how some of the top sites rank for actual sales. Just because there is a lot of traffic to a site, it doesn’t mean stuff sells well, or for a good price. Does anyone here sell to more than one of these sites? Which do you think is a better site for selling handmade jewelry?
(Boy I don’t ask for much do I?)
very interesting stats – thanks so much for posting this!
I am surprised!
(I came here via the jewelledrabbit’s blog – thanks Maureen)
What great info!! Thanks so much for sharing it! Never knew there were sooooo many!
Love your blog!
It’s about time for an update. I’ll update the traffic numbers and rankings and repost in the next week for everyone.
Kristy
Dear Kristy:
I just found you and am extremely excited! I have been setting up my Etsy shoppe this week and was looking into info about Artfire. You have certainly helped me make up my mind as well as listing numerous other possible sites to promote our Soy Candles.
I’m definitley signing up for your email announcements!!

I had printed off your original list you posted awhile ago. Thank you for the update, and the work you put into it. I suppose it’s about finding the right fit for what each person sells. some venues may be better for one type of product than another. I’m still trying to find the right combination.
Has anyone heard of or have any experience with Zibbett?
Can you add Bonanzle?
http://www.bonanzle.com/
Thanks!
Thanks for the update. I am currently sellling on Etsy (4 sales in 3 months), 1000 Markets (no sales), Artfire (no sales), Bonanzle (1 sale), and small amount on Zibbett (no sales). I was going to list on Handmadefusion, but I didn’t care for their site, extremely slow and jerky. (I sell jewelry, along with about a million other people).
I’ve posted a link to your article on the new Membership site for Handmade Sellers – Coaching Handmade. Come by and check us out!

I know of a site/selling Venue not listed: http://ArtistryArts.com/ Aprilee
Thanks for compiling this list. There are some that I’ve never heard about. I opened a free shop on Zibbet.com to see how it goes.
This is a great list and research!
I would be interested to see where Bonanzle falls in this. Their traffic is increasing like crazy but they are new.
Thanks for sharing your information.
I’ll add Bonanzle information today. Also, I’ve got a Zibbet interview coming, so stay tuned.
Kristy
Also have a Twolia interview coming next week.

Here’s one that is climbing fast – The GLC Arts and Crafts Mall is offering a free basic shop to crafters who want to sell their crafts online. No catch you can list up to 12 items free.
For the record, glcmall isn’t ranked at all by Compete.com. It’s ranked 609,094 by Alexa.

We’re currently redeveloping the web commerce platform and gallery for MountainMade, a foundation that supports a juried family of West Virginia artisans. We hope to see it join all the other great sites you have listed there, and we hope your readers will come check out another site supporting handmade creations: http://www.mountainmade.com
Yay, thanks for updating! This is such helpful info. Selecting the best online platform to sell goods is such a difficult, but important choice since there are so many options out there! It’s nice that you’ve compiled a list where people can see in one place all the venues that are available. Thanks again.
Excellnt list ,wonderful information will definintly use these sites to sell my products
I’ll add mountainmade.com in the next iteration. Should be updated shortly.

I don’t see handmade artists shops on your list. We get great traffic numbers. You can probably contact Andrew Kitchen, he and his wife Kimberley own the site. I love it there and have had sales there when I did not have any anywhere else. We are still new and growing well.
All Blessings!!
I really am glad that I found your site. I have been on 7 different sites for some time now.
I was truly surprised at what a low traffic pattern that FuzzB has. I have been there for less than a year. I have found that there Help Center is useless. They never answer my tickets. I may have to leave this site. When will your next update come out? Thank you:-)
Hi Cathy
I generally update every 4 or so months, so I’ll edit this list later this fall.
thanks for the comments.

Hi
Crobbies is another site that was not listed…not sure about the amount of traffic – more likely very limited! They are listed as being est. 2003.

Amazing information! Thank you so much for sharing this. I am fairly new to online selling (since May 2010) and I wasn’t even aware of many of these! Now, I can make informed decisions.
All the Best,
Christy
I’ll add cargoh.com and efreeme.com to the next update. Thanks for the suggestions.
Hi, boocoo is a rather new auction site. I Don’t know if you have stats on that one. Another topic is a newly closed its doors site of winkelf. check out the blog:
http://winkelf.wordpress.com/ Sorry to see it go winkelf was a sweet site to be on. This is a great list by the way, thanks so much.
I’ll check out boocoo and add it to the next update. I’ve also added a link to Winkelf’s site closing blog post.
wow, you are totally on top of this. THanks.
Love this list! I’ve got it bookmarked so I can reference. Thanks for taking the time to post this!

Thanks so much for including the Handmade Artists’ Shop in your list. I know we are not at the top yet and probably will never get there. That is not our goal our goal is to be strictly handmade no unaltered vintage and no non handmade supplies, saying that we will never be at the top. We also have a goal for the number of vendors we will allow, some of the top sites just let people keep coming and everyone just gets lost in the mix. We have room for quite a few more and welcome new vendors everyday. We are very attentive to our vendors and try to respond to support questions almost immediately when at all possible. Vendors are only charged $5.00 a month and no commissions or listing fees are charged. So stop by and say hi.
Thanks,
Andrew
