In today’s daily thread on the Starving Artists forum, the question asked was “What are your life strategies for dealing with the daily battle?” I thought it was an interesting question, so decided to post my rules to live by. I have a fairly short list, but try to abide by the 5 things below.
1. Take each day at a time. Worrying about what the future will bring is an exercise in futility.
2. I can’t change anyone but myself, so I don’t even try.
3. No one but me can make myself happy, including the Hubs. I decide the happiness quotient for the day.
4. With the exception of my spouse and my kiddo, I’ve decided (and implemented!) that I don’t give a damn what other people think of me. I swear it’s like winning the less stress and less guilt lottery.
5. No matter how bad I think I have it, there are MILLIONS of others much worse off than I am, so I need to just shut up and get on with it. I am much much luckier than I deserve, so enjoy it.
What’s your daily mantra? What rules do you live by?

I do everything you’ve stated, and you’re right – it’s totally like winning the lottery!
You were rolling along real good until the last sentence of #5: “I am much much luckier than I deserve.” Um, no. You DO deserve whatever good fortune you create, or comes your way. Make that a part of your mind set as well.
Thanks Grace.
Kristy, I love your strategies. I do the same things. ( ok, I try real hard) Life is so much sweeter when we take responsibility for our own thoughts and feelings.
Wow! What a beautiful words to live by.
They very good advice to avoid stress. I do remind myself from time to time to just focus on today and that I cannot please everybody.
That’s beautiful!
Wonderful advice. I would change the last one a little – Focus should be more on our ability to create rather than on what we deserve.
